Basic Military Training Graduation

Airman Scott Halls
Basic Military Training Graduation June 5th, 2009

The graduation weekend was one of the neatest things I have been able to experience. The ceremonies started out on Thursday with the Airman's run. This was the first time I was able to see Scott in 8 1/2 weeks. I was so excited to see him that by the time he ran past,I was so distracted that I was only able to get a picture of the back of his head!!
Luckily they told us that the Airman will run past and then turn around and come back. When his squadron came back around I decided to video tape it because it was really neat that they were all singing 'jodies'. Scott later sang a few of them and I thought to myself... "who comes up with stuff like that!"
After the Airman's run, the men returned to their dorms to change into their blues for retreat. This ceremony was where all the graduates are officially made Airman by receiving their Airman's coin. This is one of the greatest honors one could receive after all of their hard work after the last 8 1/2 weeks. The whole audience was emotional as their son or daughter, brother or sister, husband or wife finally were honored as Airman.

A salute was given to the flag and then the flag was lowered.

Following the Retreat a special ceremony was held for the honor graduates. I am so proud of Scott for the hard work and dedication he put into BMT. It is not an easy thing for someone to graduate with honors but he did it and I did not doubt one second that he couldn't do it. Two others from his flight and two others from his sister flight made honor grad.

The next day, Friday June 5th, was the graduation. All the airman marched out in a parade to be present for graduation. The came to formation and repeated the Airman's Creed. Scott was then officially sworn in as a member of the United States Air Force.

A flight is selected to carry American flags along with a flag from each of the 50 states.

After the Airman were sworn in, they had to stand at attention until family members tapped them on their shoulders. Let me tell you, I walked as fast as a could across that field to go and get him. It was great to see him in uniform. I must say that he was the most handsome man in uniform. He was then released to me and his mother for the weekend. We spent Saturday at the San Antonio Temple, went to dinner, spent time at the hotel (wink) and enjoyed every minute of our time together.

One of the newest Air Force Couples. I must say we look good!

And here is the man who got them to scrub toilets, do laundry, make their beds, etc. I owe him a lot!! lol... Just kidding!!
